The loss of teeth not only results in aesthetic problems, but can lead to functional problems as well. Therefore, replacement is recommended in every case. The type of replacement for the lost teeth depends on the number of remaining teeth and the given situation.

What type of tooth prosthetics exist?

Partial denture
This comes into discussion when there is a limited or decreased number of teeth available, but they can be used to anchor a removable denture.

Combined tooth replacement
This is done when crowns or bridges are placed on remaining teeth, and, as the name suggests, it is composed of multiple parts:

  • fixed-secured parts (crown, bridge)
  • removable parts
  • anchor/clip

Fully removable denture
These are used in the case that the jawbone does not have any teeth on it. Here, the denture is held in place solely by the mucus membrane. When making the denture, we aim to utilize the anatomic features of the mouth cavity to keep the denture in place. In order to maximize stability, we recommend denture implants if possible because this ensures higher comfort as well.

Dentures often create the sensation of a foreign body, restrict taste and heat sensitivity, and can blister the gums, but they also restore harmony and balance in the face (like the fullness of the lips) and allow easier chewing.
